Karpaga Vinayagar — The Wish-Fulfilling Ganesha of Pillayarpatti

Pure Solid Brass · Handmade · 7 cm · Kumbakonam Workshop

“Pillayarpatti is not merely a temple. It is one of the most ancient Ganesha shrines in Tamil Nadu — where Karpaga Vinayagar, the wish-fulfilling Vinayaka, has presided for more than two thousand years. The murti here is not installed by human hands. It is swayambhu — self-manifested from the earth itself. To bring Karpaga Vinayagar into your home is to invite the blessings of this most ancient and most beloved form of Lord Ganesha.”

Karpaga Vinayagar — Karpaga meaning the wish-fulfilling divine tree of the celestial realm, Vinayagar meaning the supreme remover of all obstacles — is the presiding deity of the Pillayarpatti Karpaga Vinayagar Temple in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu, one of the Ashtavinayaka shrines of South India and one of the most revered Ganesha temples in the Tamil tradition. The swayambhu murti of Pillayarpatti is unique in its form — shown seated in the royal posture with his left leg pendant and right leg folded, his trunk curving to the left, his form radiating the complete fullness of Ganapati’s blessings. This handmade pure solid brass Karpaga Vinayagar, crafted in our Kumbakonam workshop by our master artisans, faithfully reproduces the sacred form of Pillayarpatti for your home altar — bringing the darshan of this ancient swayambhu into your daily worship.

Karpaga Vinayagar — The Sacred Form
  • Karpaga Vinayagar — The Wish-Fulfilling Form — Karpaga is the divine Kalpavriksha, the celestial tree that grants every sincere wish of those who stand beneath it. Karpaga Vinayagar is thus the form of Ganesha who fulfils wishes, removes obstacles from the path of devotees, and ensures the successful completion of every auspicious undertaking begun with his blessing.
  • Pillayarpatti — The Swayambhu Shrine — the original murti at Pillayarpatti is swayambhu — self-manifested, not installed by human hands. This is the highest possible designation for a sacred murti in the Hindu tradition, signifying that the deity chose the location and form of his own appearance. The form of Karpaga Vinayagar at Pillayarpatti has therefore a particular potency and sanctity that has drawn pilgrims for over two millennia.
  • Handmade Pure Solid Brass — every detail of this murti — the large ears, the curved trunk, the modaka in hand, the mouse at the feet — is shaped and finished by hand by our master artisans in Kumbakonam. Pure solid brass, not cast from a mould but formed with hand tools, ensuring a depth of detail and warmth of surface that machine production cannot replicate.
  • Auspicious Left-Curved Trunk — Karpaga Vinayagar’s trunk curves to the left, toward the modaka — the sacred sweet that represents the bliss of realisation. A left-curved trunk Ganesha is the form associated with ease of worship, gentle blessings, and the fulfilment of worldly and spiritual desires. He is the Ganesha of the householder — approachable, generous, and ever-present.

Sacred Blessings — What Karpaga Vinayagar Brings to the Home
  • Removal of All Obstacles — Vinayagar is invoked before every auspicious beginning — every new business, every new home, every wedding, every journey, every examination. His blessing clears the path and ensures that what is begun well is completed well.
  • Fulfilment of Sincere Wishes — as Karpaga Vinayagar, this form is specifically associated with the granting of sincere heartfelt wishes. Families who have worshipped Pillayarpatti Karpaga Vinayagar for generations attest to his swift and generous response to devoted prayer.
  • Prosperity & Auspiciousness — Ganesha is Vighneshwara, the lord who governs all obstacles and all auspicious outcomes. His presence in the home altar brings a steady field of prosperity, protection, and good fortune to the household and its members.
  • Vastu Placement — Karpaga Vinayagar is ideally placed in the Northeast corner (Ishanya) of the home or pooja room — the direction of divine blessings and spiritual energy in Vastu Shastra. He may also be placed at the entrance of the home, facing East, as the first deity to receive and bless all who enter.

A Perfect Sacred Gift
▶ The First Deity of Every Auspicious Beginning
Karpaga Vinayagar is the ideal gift for housewarmings · weddings · new business inaugurations · Vinayaka Chaturthi · Diwali gifting · new year blessings · graduation gifts. At a compact 7 cm in pure handmade brass, this murti travels safely across India and internationally — a meaningful and lasting sacred gift that will be worshipped in the recipient’s home for decades.

Care & Maintenance
  • Daily Worship — wipe gently with a soft dry cloth before and after worship. Pure solid brass maintains its warmth and character with simple daily care.
  • Restoring the Golden Glow — rub a small amount of fresh tamarind paste or lemon juice mixed with fine salt over the surface, leave for two minutes, and rinse with water. The golden brass shine returns immediately.
  • Dry Completely — wipe dry immediately after any rinse to prevent water spots on the detailed surface.
  • Natural Patina — pure brass naturally develops a warm patina over time from worship contact. This is the mark of a living murti — fully restorable at any time with traditional methods.

Care & Maintenance

Made from super fine quality brass with a golden powder coated polish — gives a satin gold glow like a gold statue. Purely for decor and dry display. If used for pooja rituals, the golden polish layer will peel off over time. Keep it dry — and it will look as fresh as the day you bought it. Always.

No restrictions for pooja rituals. Avoid harsh chemicals to preserve its traditional antique look. The dark patina is intentional — it deepens the beauty over time.

Powerful. Preferred for active pooja rituals — no restrictions. Traditional Cleaning Method: Use dara liquid and cashew nut seeds — an ancient method used by temple priests for generations. Gently rub with cashew nut seeds dipped in dara liquid. Rinse clean. Your idol will look brand new. Cleaning once every 30 days is recommended if used regularly for pooja.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand this completely. You are buying online from a shop you have never visited. Here is the truth: Sri Swaminathan & Co has been standing at 61, Bakthapuri Street, Kumbakonam since 1973 — over 53 years. We are not a warehouse or a reseller. We are a family shop, rooted in Kumbakonam, where priests, temples, and devotees from across Tamil Nadu have been coming for generations. Travellers from Singapore, Malaysia, UK, and USA visit us when they come to Kumbakonam — because they know us. You can walk into our shop any day. We are real.
Because most sites sell products. We sell legacy. Every item in our shop — whether it is a small brass lamp or a 4-foot Panchaloha idol — comes from craftsmen whose families have been doing this since the Chola period. We do not source from factories. We do not compromise on material or finish to reduce price. When you buy from us, you are not just getting a product — you are getting 53 years of trust, traditional craftsmanship, and the assurance that what you receive is exactly what a devotee deserves.
This is a fair concern and we respect it. Here is why we do not offer COD — our products are handcrafted, fragile, and carefully packed for safe delivery. COD returns damage both the product and the trust. Instead, we offer something better: WhatsApp us before you order. We will send you a video of the actual product — the exact piece you will receive. You can ask us anything. Only when you are fully satisfied, you pay. Our 53-year reputation is our guarantee — we cannot afford to let even one customer down.
Not at all — and we are glad you asked this. Our products are made of brass and Panchaloha — metals that naturally catch and reflect light from every angle. What you see as dark shades or bright reflections in photos is simply the metal doing what metal does — glowing, reflecting, and shining. We photograph every product as-is, with no filters, no AI, no editing. That reflection you see in the photo? You will see the same beautiful glow when it sits in your pooja room. It is not a defect — it is the character of real metal.
Yes — and here is why we say this with full confidence. Panchaloha idols require the right alloy, the right casting method, and the right finishing — done by craftsmen who understand the spiritual significance of what they are making. Our Panchaloha idols are hand-cast in Kumbakonam and Swamimalai by hereditary artisans using the traditional lost-wax method — the same method used to make idols for consecrated temples across South India. Priests trust our idols for temple installation. Families trust us for home pooja rooms. In 53 years, that trust has never been broken.
