🦢ྀིྀིྀིྀིྀི Traditional South Indian Hanging Chain Lamp for Pooja Altar 🦢ྀིྀིྀིྀིྀི

— Solid Cast Brass · Classic Antique Look Finish · 46 cm Hanging Height (18 Inch) —

For those looking to bring a true, temple-grade warmth and majestic glow into their home prayer space, this piece is an absolute masterpiece. Hand-designed right here in Kumbakonam, this Brass Annapakshi Hanging Chain Lamp (Thooku Vilakku) features a beautifully detailed divine swan crowning a deep single-wick oil reservoir, complete with a heavy bottom drop finial.

This is a premium-quality, heavy-gauge traditional hanging deepam built with a stunning antique finish that makes anyone say “wow” the moment they look at it. It is fully functional for daily ritual lighting and creates a grand, soul-stirring decorative look wherever it hangs.

Why This Hanging Lamp Deserves a Special Place in Your Home

Generous 60 ml Single-Wick Reservoir: The main bowl features a deep, single continuous oil basin built to hold an impressive 60 ml capacity of oil or ghee. This ample depth allows a thick cotton wick to sit perfectly, giving you a steady, calm, and long-lasting flame that keeps your pooja room illuminated throughout your extended prayers.

The Majestic Annapakshi Finial: Seated proudly right on top of the oil basin is a beautifully carved Annapakshi (the divine swan). Its elegant wind-swept tail and traditional neck curves bring a timeless, 17th-century style temple heritage right into your living space.

Traditional Bottom Kumil Base: Hanging gracefully from the absolute centre base is a perfectly rounded Kumil (traditional teardrop metal finial). This classic feature balances the visual weight of the sculpture, giving it a flawless dangling posture when suspended.

Heavy Sturdy Chain & Grip Hook: The set comes completely integrated with a solid, thick brass chain measuring a generous 30 cm in length. The top of the chain features a wide, heavy-duty S-hook bracket with an apt design to latch tightly onto any ceiling loop, balcony frame, or wall stand with a rock-solid strong grip.

Material, Quality & Craftsmanship

Solid Heavy-Duty Cast Brass: Poured from thick, 100% genuine solid brass metal right in our local workshops. It carries a highly substantial, expensive feel in the hand, weighing approximately 540 grams for its compact sizing. It is completely unbreakable and built to last for generations.

Timeless Antique Finish Polish: The entire structure is treated to achieve a beautiful aged texture. Deep dark shadows are safely locked inside the fine lines of the bird’s feathers and the wick corners, ensuring the raised golden brass features pop out with clean, realistic contrast.

Perfect Proportional Dimensions: Carefully structured with a 12.5 cm lamp height, a wide 8.0 cm lamp diameter, and a practical 46 cm entire height while hanging from the top hook down to the bottom Kumil base.

A Meaningful Traditional Gift for Special Milestones

Home Altar Mandirs & Entryways: An exceptional statement choice to hang on both sides of your main door wooden frame or your home temple room to create a grand, royal welcome look.

Grand Housewarmings & Diwali Gifting: A deeply respectable, valuable family keepsake to gift close friends or family to wish them a strong, bright, and well-protected new beginning filled with luck.

Safe Worldwide Suitcase Packing: Built from solid, thick cast brass metal, this sturdy lamp set is completely immune to fractures or cracks during long international travel or shipping.

Simple Care & Maintenance Instructions

Because this solid piece features an intentional antique finish with dark shaded accents, it requires very low maintenance to keep its classic vintage look:

Simple Weekly Dusting: Clean gently once a week using a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a small dry paintbrush to easily clear out dust from the fine feathers and the wick corner.

Washing the Oil Basin: Since this holds a larger 60 ml pool of oil, simply wash the basin area using regular dish soap and a soft sponge to wash away leftover sticky soot after your prayers. Never use steel wool or harsh chemical cleaners, as they will scratch away the beautiful dark antique shading.

Wipe it Completely Dry: Always wipe the structure completely dry with a towel immediately after any rinse to prevent uneven white water mineral spots from forming on the polished brass surfaces.

Care & Maintenance

Made from super fine quality brass with a golden powder coated polish — gives a satin gold glow like a gold statue. Purely for decor and dry display. If used for pooja rituals, the golden polish layer will peel off over time. Keep it dry — and it will look as fresh as the day you bought it. Always.

No restrictions for pooja rituals. Avoid harsh chemicals to preserve its traditional antique look. The dark patina is intentional — it deepens the beauty over time.

Powerful. Preferred for active pooja rituals — no restrictions. Traditional Cleaning Method: Use dara liquid and cashew nut seeds — an ancient method used by temple priests for generations. Gently rub with cashew nut seeds dipped in dara liquid. Rinse clean. Your idol will look brand new. Cleaning once every 30 days is recommended if used regularly for pooja.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand this completely. You are buying online from a shop you have never visited. Here is the truth: Sri Swaminathan & Co has been standing at 61, Bakthapuri Street, Kumbakonam since 1973 — over 53 years. We are not a warehouse or a reseller. We are a family shop, rooted in Kumbakonam, where priests, temples, and devotees from across Tamil Nadu have been coming for generations. Travellers from Singapore, Malaysia, UK, and USA visit us when they come to Kumbakonam — because they know us. You can walk into our shop any day. We are real.
Because most sites sell products. We sell legacy. Every item in our shop — whether it is a small brass lamp or a 4-foot Panchaloha idol — comes from craftsmen whose families have been doing this since the Chola period. We do not source from factories. We do not compromise on material or finish to reduce price. When you buy from us, you are not just getting a product — you are getting 53 years of trust, traditional craftsmanship, and the assurance that what you receive is exactly what a devotee deserves.
This is a fair concern and we respect it. Here is why we do not offer COD — our products are handcrafted, fragile, and carefully packed for safe delivery. COD returns damage both the product and the trust. Instead, we offer something better: WhatsApp us before you order. We will send you a video of the actual product — the exact piece you will receive. You can ask us anything. Only when you are fully satisfied, you pay. Our 53-year reputation is our guarantee — we cannot afford to let even one customer down.
Not at all — and we are glad you asked this. Our products are made of brass and Panchaloha — metals that naturally catch and reflect light from every angle. What you see as dark shades or bright reflections in photos is simply the metal doing what metal does — glowing, reflecting, and shining. We photograph every product as-is, with no filters, no AI, no editing. That reflection you see in the photo? You will see the same beautiful glow when it sits in your pooja room. It is not a defect — it is the character of real metal.
Yes — and here is why we say this with full confidence. Panchaloha idols require the right alloy, the right casting method, and the right finishing — done by craftsmen who understand the spiritual significance of what they are making. Our Panchaloha idols are hand-cast in Kumbakonam and Swamimalai by hereditary artisans using the traditional lost-wax method — the same method used to make idols for consecrated temples across South India. Priests trust our idols for temple installation. Families trust us for home pooja rooms. In 53 years, that trust has never been broken.
