— Traditional South Indian Hanging Chain Lamp for Pooja Altar —

Solid Cast Brass · Classic Antique Skin Finish · 63 cm Hanging Height (24.8 Inch)

If you want a real, traditional hanging piece that adds a stunning interior designer look to your home prayer space, this is a beautiful choice. Hand-designed right here in Kumbakonam, this Brass Peacock Hanging Chain Lamp (Thooku Vilakku) features a beautifully detailed guard peacock crowning an expansive five-spout oil reservoir, complete with a small bottom drop finial.

This is a premium-quality, heavy-gauge traditional hanging deepam built with a strong brass body that ensures a lifelong nature. It creates a grand appearance that is best suited for classic traditional rooms, main home entryways, and sacred pooja rooms.

Why This Hanging Lamp Deserves a Special Place in Your Home
  • Balancing the Pancha Bhoothas (Five Elements) — Lighting all five faces of this traditional lamp honours the five great forces of nature that rule our lives:
    • Prithvi (Earth) — The heavy, solid cast brass body grounds the lamp, bringing physical strength and lifelong stability to your home.
    • Appu (Water) — The liquid oil pooled inside the 10 ml agal cups represents pure water, soothing emotions and calming the house.
    • Agni (Fire) — The active sacred flame burns away dark anxieties, heavy stress, and room negativity.
    • Vayu (Air) — The gentle breeze that feeds the flame handles smooth communication and clear thoughts for the family.
    • Akasham (Space) — Hanging gracefully in the air allows the golden light to expand outward, filling your entire room layout with a protective, cosy energy shield.
  • The Beautiful Guard Peacock Finial — Seated proudly right on top of the pedestal stem is a beautifully detailed traditional peacock. Its elegant curved neck and sweeping tail feathers bring a timeless heritage charm that instantly connects with a spiritual person’s heart.
  • Heavy Sturdy Chain & Lifelong Build — Notable for its solid thickness, this sturdy lamp is completely unbreakable. It comes integrated with a strong, thick link chain, giving you a full 63 cm height while hanging so it can safely suspend from any ceiling hook or wall bracket with a rock-solid grip.

Material, Quality & Craftsmanship
  • Premium Heavy-Gauge Solid Brass — Cast from thick, pure brass metal right here in our workshops by our master craftsmen. The lamp carries a highly substantial, expensive feel in the hand, weighing approximately 1.060 kg for its size. It handles daily ritual use effortlessly without losing its charm.
  • Classic Antique Skin Look — The structure is treated to achieve a beautiful, vintage antique skin finish. Deep dark shadows are safely locked inside the fine lines of the peacock feathers, making the raised golden brass features pop out with clean contrast.
  • Perfect Proportional Dimensions — Carefully calibrated with a 14.5 cm lamp height, a wide 11 cm lamp diameter, compact 3.5 cm single lamp cup widths, and a generous 44 cm chain length.

A Meaningful Traditional Gift for Special Milestones
  • Grand Housewarmings & Festivals — An exceptional statement choice to hang in your home mandir or your main entrance walkway to welcome positive energy, element balance, and good luck.
  • Auspicious Family Gifting — A deeply respectable, valuable family keepsake to gift close friends or relatives to wish them a strong, well-protected start in a new home.
  • Safe Worldwide Suitcase Packing — Built from solid, thick cast brass metal, this sturdy lamp set will never crack or break during long international travel or courier shipping.

Care & Maintenance Instructions

Because this solid piece features an intentional antique skin finish with dark shaded accents, it is not preferable to use harsh chemicals to maintain its vintage look. A simple, regular wash is all it takes to keep it beautiful:

  • Simple Weekly Dusting — Clean gently once a week using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a small dry paintbrush to easily clear out dust from the fine peacock feathers and the 5 wick corners.
  • Easy Wash Routine — If you use real oil or ghee, simply wash the basin area using regular dish soap and a soft sponge to wash away leftover sticky soot after your prayers. Never use steel wool or harsh wire scrubbers, as they will scratch away the beautiful dark antique shading.
  • Wipe Completely Dry — Always wipe the structure completely dry with a soft towel immediately after rinsing so that water droplets do not leave spots inside the deep grooves.

Care & Maintenance

Made from super fine quality brass with a golden powder coated polish — gives a satin gold glow like a gold statue. Purely for decor and dry display. If used for pooja rituals, the golden polish layer will peel off over time. Keep it dry — and it will look as fresh as the day you bought it. Always.

No restrictions for pooja rituals. Avoid harsh chemicals to preserve its traditional antique look. The dark patina is intentional — it deepens the beauty over time.

Powerful. Preferred for active pooja rituals — no restrictions. Traditional Cleaning Method: Use dara liquid and cashew nut seeds — an ancient method used by temple priests for generations. Gently rub with cashew nut seeds dipped in dara liquid. Rinse clean. Your idol will look brand new. Cleaning once every 30 days is recommended if used regularly for pooja.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand this completely. You are buying online from a shop you have never visited. Here is the truth: Sri Swaminathan & Co has been standing at 61, Bakthapuri Street, Kumbakonam since 1973 — over 53 years. We are not a warehouse or a reseller. We are a family shop, rooted in Kumbakonam, where priests, temples, and devotees from across Tamil Nadu have been coming for generations. Travellers from Singapore, Malaysia, UK, and USA visit us when they come to Kumbakonam — because they know us. You can walk into our shop any day. We are real.
Because most sites sell products. We sell legacy. Every item in our shop — whether it is a small brass lamp or a 4-foot Panchaloha idol — comes from craftsmen whose families have been doing this since the Chola period. We do not source from factories. We do not compromise on material or finish to reduce price. When you buy from us, you are not just getting a product — you are getting 53 years of trust, traditional craftsmanship, and the assurance that what you receive is exactly what a devotee deserves.
This is a fair concern and we respect it. Here is why we do not offer COD — our products are handcrafted, fragile, and carefully packed for safe delivery. COD returns damage both the product and the trust. Instead, we offer something better: WhatsApp us before you order. We will send you a video of the actual product — the exact piece you will receive. You can ask us anything. Only when you are fully satisfied, you pay. Our 53-year reputation is our guarantee — we cannot afford to let even one customer down.
Not at all — and we are glad you asked this. Our products are made of brass and Panchaloha — metals that naturally catch and reflect light from every angle. What you see as dark shades or bright reflections in photos is simply the metal doing what metal does — glowing, reflecting, and shining. We photograph every product as-is, with no filters, no AI, no editing. That reflection you see in the photo? You will see the same beautiful glow when it sits in your pooja room. It is not a defect — it is the character of real metal.
Yes — and here is why we say this with full confidence. Panchaloha idols require the right alloy, the right casting method, and the right finishing — done by craftsmen who understand the spiritual significance of what they are making. Our Panchaloha idols are hand-cast in Kumbakonam and Swamimalai by hereditary artisans using the traditional lost-wax method — the same method used to make idols for consecrated temples across South India. Priests trust our idols for temple installation. Families trust us for home pooja rooms. In 53 years, that trust has never been broken.
