  • Hindi (हिंदी) — Chandan Katori (चंदन कटोरी) / Chandan Vatika (चंदन वाटिका)

  • Telugu (తెలుగు) — Gandham Ginni (గంధం గిన్నె)

The Story of Our Craft: The Pure Vessel of Divine Fragrance

In the sacred geometry of daily Vedic worship, offering fresh Sandalwood paste to the deities represents the ultimate offering of cooling peace, devotion, and pure mental clarity. The soothing aroma of ground sandalwood mixed with water invokes the classic, serene atmosphere of ancient grand stone temples. To hold this highly sacred substance, a standard household container will never do—tradition demands the absolute purity, grounding weight, and golden glow of pure solid brass.

Hand-forged by our hereditary master craftsmen in the historic lanes of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, each pedestal cup in this exclusive collection is pressed from high-density, top-tier brass. The flared outer rims are beautifully smooth for easy pouring, while the elegant raised pedestal stand ensures that the sacred paste never directly touches flat ground tables.

Since 1973, Sri Swaminathan & Co Pvt Ltd has stood as an uncompromising guardian of metal purity. From our family landmark at 61, Bakthapuri Street, we bring you the finest quality spiritual tools built to last for generations.

Engineered Specially for Sacred Rituals & Festive Celebrations

Crafted entirely from 100% authentic, high-caliber brass with absolutely no hollow fillers, this collection represents the absolute best quality you can ever find. It is built natively to withstand regular active devotional routines:

  • Sandal Powder Mixing — The inner contours are perfectly circular and polished smoothly, making it incredibly easy to blend dry sandal powder smoothly with water or rose water without any scratching or structural staining.
  • Multi-Substance Layout — While designed specially for Chandan paste, these versatile bowls function beautifully as individual containers to present Kumkum (vermilion), Turmeric (haldi), Akshat (sanctified rice grains), flowers, or holy Panchamirtham prasadam.
  • Fully Suitable for Abishegam — Forged from corrosion-resistant pure brass, these cups are completely safe for heavy daily liquid handling and sacred washing rituals.

Capacity Note — Measured Using Water Only

All capacities listed for No. 1–6 have been measured using water only. The figures in millilitres and US fluid ounces describe the volume the bowl holds, not the weight of its contents.

The amount of sandalwood paste, kumkum, turmeric, rice or other offerings that fits will vary with the substance, paste consistency and how loosely or firmly it is filled. For example, a 60-millilitre bowl does not necessarily hold 60 grams of sandalwood paste or powder.

The weight listed separately in each table is the approximate weight of the empty brass bowl. Leave some space when mixing paste to help prevent spills. If you need a specific quantity in grams, weigh the contents separately after subtracting the empty bowl’s weight.

Material Care & Golden Preservation Instructions

To ensure your pure brass ritual cups retain their bright golden sheen and remain pristine family heirlooms, follow this basic care routine:

  1. Immediate Cleaning — Wash the bowl cleanly with lukewarm water and a mild liquid dish soap right after use to dissolve dried sandal crusts or oily residues before they harden.
  2. Avoid Abrasives — Never use coarse steel wool scrubbers, wire pads, or harsh chemical bleach sprays, which will permanently scratch the highly polished golden satin mirror finish.
  3. The Heritage Shine — To easily restore its bright golden luster after heavy festive use, gently polish the surface using traditional Pitambari powder or a natural paste of lemon juice and salt. Rinse cleanly and dry instantly with a soft microfiber towel before storing away in a dry cupboard.

Care & Maintenance

Made from super fine quality brass with a golden powder coated polish — gives a satin gold glow like a gold statue. Purely for decor and dry display. If used for pooja rituals, the golden polish layer will peel off over time. Keep it dry — and it will look as fresh as the day you bought it. Always.

No restrictions for pooja rituals. Avoid harsh chemicals to preserve its traditional antique look. The dark patina is intentional — it deepens the beauty over time.

Powerful. Preferred for active pooja rituals — no restrictions. Traditional Cleaning Method: Use dara liquid and cashew nut seeds — an ancient method used by temple priests for generations. Gently rub with cashew nut seeds dipped in dara liquid. Rinse clean. Your idol will look brand new. Cleaning once every 30 days is recommended if used regularly for pooja.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand this completely. You are buying online from a shop you have never visited. Here is the truth: Sri Swaminathan & Co has been standing at 61, Bakthapuri Street, Kumbakonam since 1973 — over 53 years. We are not a warehouse or a reseller. We are a family shop, rooted in Kumbakonam, where priests, temples, and devotees from across Tamil Nadu have been coming for generations. Travellers from Singapore, Malaysia, UK, and USA visit us when they come to Kumbakonam — because they know us. You can walk into our shop any day. We are real.
Because most sites sell products. We sell legacy. Every item in our shop — whether it is a small brass lamp or a 4-foot Panchaloha idol — comes from craftsmen whose families have been doing this since the Chola period. We do not source from factories. We do not compromise on material or finish to reduce price. When you buy from us, you are not just getting a product — you are getting 53 years of trust, traditional craftsmanship, and the assurance that what you receive is exactly what a devotee deserves.
This is a fair concern and we respect it. Here is why we do not offer COD — our products are handcrafted, fragile, and carefully packed for safe delivery. COD returns damage both the product and the trust. Instead, we offer something better: WhatsApp us before you order. We will send you a video of the actual product — the exact piece you will receive. You can ask us anything. Only when you are fully satisfied, you pay. Our 53-year reputation is our guarantee — we cannot afford to let even one customer down.
Not at all — and we are glad you asked this. Our products are made of brass and Panchaloha — metals that naturally catch and reflect light from every angle. What you see as dark shades or bright reflections in photos is simply the metal doing what metal does — glowing, reflecting, and shining. We photograph every product as-is, with no filters, no AI, no editing. That reflection you see in the photo? You will see the same beautiful glow when it sits in your pooja room. It is not a defect — it is the character of real metal.
Yes — and here is why we say this with full confidence. Panchaloha idols require the right alloy, the right casting method, and the right finishing — done by craftsmen who understand the spiritual significance of what they are making. Our Panchaloha idols are hand-cast in Kumbakonam and Swamimalai by hereditary artisans using the traditional lost-wax method — the same method used to make idols for consecrated temples across South India. Priests trust our idols for temple installation. Families trust us for home pooja rooms. In 53 years, that trust has never been broken.
